COM-3001 Dual Band 915 MHz / 2.4 GHz receiver -> Variable Interpolation COM-1008 The baseline configuration in the 3001_1008.stn settings file is as follows: 850 MHz center frequency 100 KHz synthesizer frequency step. External 10 MHz frequency reference. Internal ADC sampling clock. -56 dBm input level threshold for full scale 10-bit A/D conversion. External PLL-STROBE frequency hopping signal disabled. Purpose: test the RF receiver module in presence of an input sinewave. Check the AGC (the COM-1008 controls the RF gain so that the signal prior to the A to D converter is 1V peak to peak.) Check the ability to tune to the extreme frequencies 850 MHz, 1000 MHz, 2025 MHz and 2500 MHz. Check the internal and external reference clocks. Check the internal and external ADC sampling clocks. (a) Connect an external 10 MHz frequency reference (generally available from a spectrum analyzer or RF signal generator) to the COM-3001 10 MHz input port (labeled EXTERNAL FREQ REF / J7). (b) connect an RF frequency generator to the RF-IN input. Set the frequency to 850 MHz, level -56 dBm. (c) Turn the power supply on. Import the 3001_1008.stn setting file into the assembly (from the ComBlock Control Center File | Import menu). Turn the assembly power supply off and then on again. (d) using an oscilloscope, verify frequency synthesizer lock: - test point PLL LOC is low, indicating a locked condition. - test point PLL REF shows a 10 MHz reference clock. (e) using an oscilloscope, verify that test points TP1 and TP2 are low-frequency sinewaves of amplitude approximately 1Vpp. The sinewaves represent the frequency difference between the RF signal generator and the COM-3001 external frequency reference. (f) Verify AGC operation: increase the input level to -10 dBm. Verify that TP1 and TP2 remain at 1Vpp. (g) Verify internal 10 MHz operation: Disconnect the external clock reference. Modify REG04 to 0x00 (internal clock reference). You may have to turn the power supply off then on. Repeat steps (d) and (e). The baseband sinewaves at TP1/TP2 can reach up to 50ppm with respect to the synthesizer frequency because of the Crystal oscillator frequency. (h) Frequency selection REG6 0x00 RF frequency 0: 850 MHz 0x20 RF frequency 1: 1.0 GHz 0x40 RF frequency 2: 2.025 GHz 0x60 RF frequency 3: 2.5 GHz Change the center frequency by modifing the REG6 from the ComBlock Control Center. Change the signal generator frequency accordingly. Using an oscilloscope, verify TP1 and TP2 are near-zero frequency signals.
