Settings filename: 5001_8001_1005.stn COM-5001 LAN/IP 10Base-T Network Interface -> COM-8001 Arbitrary Waveform Generator -> COM-1005 Bit Error Rate Measurement Objective: Demonstrate the ability to load a 1MB binary file, play it back as a serial (1-bit wide) data stream and verify the error-free transfers from the host PC to the output bit stream. The ComBlock assembly IP address is configured to be 172.16.1.128 If this IP address does not match your network, edit the 5001_8001_1005.stn file (change the COM-5001 registers 0-3 [IP address]). Step 1: Check the LAN connection. Power up the ComBlock assembly. Wait 10 seconds for all FPGAs to configure. Connect the COM-5001 to a LAN hub or PC (the latter requires a crossover cable). From the ComBlock Control Center, select the Communication Setup (leftmost icon). Select the LAN connection. Perform a Ping to check that the LAN connection is OK. Step 2: Configure the ComBlock assembly. From the ComBlock Control Center, enumerate the ComBlock assembly (2nd icon from the left). 3 ComBlocks are found. Then import the 5001_8001_1005.stn settings file from the File | Import menu. The assembly is now configured. Step 3: Upload binary file. Open the window Function | Pattern generator. Upload the binary file "PRBS11_1bw.bin" (in the ComBlock CD Basic Settings folder, or ComBlock web site). The file contains 1,048,064 bytes (8,384,512 bits). Do the entire upload, starting at address 0. Select Action = Start Upload. Then Apply. The menu should show a progress bar, then indicate successful upload of 1,048,064 bytes. The upload speed is typically around 10 seconds. Step 4: Playback binary file Select Action = Start continuous download. The download window length is 1,048,064 bytes. The output flow is "Data pushed", speed is 20Mbit/s. Step 5: using an oscilloscope, verify that the BER measurement module is (a) synchronized (TP1 is high) (b) receives a periodic (1.02 ms) start of PRBS11 sequence (TP4) (c) detects no bit errors (TP3 is always low).
